Maui Fin Company starts to use cad/cam program in 1992 Since then we have never stopped our R&D and now in we are getting to the next step: the metal molded designed for prepreg construction.

All our fins are designed on the computer with a CAD program in extreme perfection; in fact our program has tolerances of 0.001mm guaranteeing us the best and most precise fins in the world. After the design is done, we transfer it to a CNC machine for the manufacturing of prototypes; once this step is done we go to test it in the water, possibly in different conditions, all the time to have a clear idea of how the fin perform with diverse conditions of wind, waves and flat water.

Then we manufacture the metal mould using the same program file of the prototype, having the mould as the exact copy of the prototype. The mould is machined by a CNC machine at very low speed to ensure a very extreme precision in machining.

After the mould is done we start to manufacture some prototypes to control the stiffness of the fin.

Once we decide on the stiffness, the fin goes to production as accessories or equipped with boards.

The computer design and manufacture is for me an incredible tool to do my job as perfectly as possible and I really enjoy doing it in this way! It is more precise and you create an unbelievable database that was previously impossible to do by hand.
